1. What is the Day of Silence? When and why did it start? (Look it up if needed)
It's a day where everyone doesn't talk for the day to show support towards LGBT(without the A). 1996. 2. In the assembly there was a poem critiquing the Day of Silence. Do you participate in the Day of Silence? Why or why not? No, I believe that the idea behind is rather redictulus and that it shouldn't be used at all. The day is for speaking out for those without a voice (those being LGBT) but the thing is... They do have a voice therefore it should be a Day Of Listening. 3. When we are encouraged to "speak out"- what do you imagine this look like? Can you think of a time when someone spoke out for you or when you spoke out for someone else? How did this feel? If you can't think of a time, think of a time when you didn't speak out...maybe you wished you would have or maybe you chose not to. Why? I believe we should always speak out because that's the only way we can enact change. But I understand that it's a hard thing to do. 1. What is a Shirley Card? Why do you think Shirley cards were calibrated for lighter skin?
A calibration card used to calibrate cameras. Due to Caucasians being the majority of people who buy cameras. 2. When did Kodak begin modifying it's film emulsion stocks? What caused this change? 1995 due to the massive outcry due to the old film being not suitable for non-Caucasians. 3. Think of an example in which darkness is villanized (Sleeping Beauty: the witch is blueish and wearing all black and lives in darkness. The princess is light-skinned and light-haired), describe it. This pattern is old, do you think that this pattern will change in American culture? Why or why not? Legend of Zelda, because the main villain is one of the few african americans in the series. I believe it won't change due to how long it's been around and how it instantly mean racism. 1. Find a photo (or multiple photos) that represent how you are feeling after the race talks. 2. How did the race talks go for you? How do you think it went for other people? The race talks went great for me and my peers in the classroom I was in. We talked about some issues and some personal experiences. The class was very warm and welcoming. 3. What do you think our community (the school, teachers, students) do to improve race issues at Grant? Maybe piece together a custom class of students for this so there is more variety then this time was due to my class being mostly white. 1. Think of Problems in my current projects that I can try later.
2. Think of a funny moment in my life. 3. Motivate myself to do my work by cheering myself on. 1. What is working for you in this class?
The lectures are interesting and the guests are great. 2. What does success in this class look like for you? Turning all assignments and getting them graded. 3. How motivated are you to succeed in this class? (1-10, 10=very motivated) 9 4.On a scale of 1-10 (1=absolutely off-task, 10=On point), how would you rate your being on-task during class? Do you feel like you are spending your class time appropriately? Are you managing your class time in a way that will help you succeed? 8 5 . What might you do differently OR what might you keep doing similarly? I'll still work hard during studio time. 6. Identify TWO strategies for yourself to take when you are feeling restless and are losing focus. Give yourself a time increment for an appropriate amount of time for this to take (example: take a walk outside, 5 min) The example: "Take a walk outside, 5 min" and watching a short youtube video. 7. Are there ways that class could work better for you? Let's strategize. More Studio time 8. Are there any other supports you can think of to help you succeed in class? Nope On the Darkest Day, with no sun in sight, I went to school. I was walking to one of my classes with my prized possession. But without even realizing it, I dropped it... My poor, poor possession was all alone on the dreary wet stone. But suddenly, as of nowhere a stranger saw me and my prized possession. He picked it up. Surely he was going to return it to the rightful owner? But my luck wasn't as so. He went off in the other direction with what is not rightfully his. Pocketing it like it was his rightful treasure. He then dropped my possession down into the darkest of dungeons. But it seems lady luck is on my side after all. As for my possession landed on a ledge not far below. Weeks later I was walking along when I noticed the entrance to the dark dungeon. Since I searched everywhere already. I decided to take a look. I couldn't believe my eyes... There it was.. My prized Possession unharmed and with in my grasp. Grasping my possession I pulled it out of that dungeon. I was wondering how it came across this place. But the most important thing is that it's back with it's rightful owner.
